FDJ (Desert Psychlist) Not sure why i did not have this 2021 release in my collection but remedied that now. An intriguing blend of straightforward heavy grooviness and off-centred weirdness that is not what you could call an easy listen but sure is an interesting one. Favorite track: Into the Tomb of the Dark Warlock.

about

THE MAGICIAN'S ALLIANCE.

Coming off of the surprising reception to Wrinngarth EP, we decided to do a full length. This time with some instruments. Just like with Wrinngarth, Magician's Alliance had no real direction, we simply decided to make a bunch of weird ass songs. The result is a bizarre collection of samples, wildly inconsistent genre changes and off beat guitar and drum tracks. The singing on this album was the first time I tried to go beyond the spoken word, and the results are...something...however, out of this album we gathered a few songs for us to play live.

At the time it was just Carter and I laying down tracks for these weird songs and putting them together in post, but following The Magician's Alliances release we decided to form a real band, and hired Caleb (drums) and Evan (bass) to play with us. This lead to the Forming of Merlin as you know it today. The experimental era was done, it was time to actually become a real band. So we took apart moments from this album and turned them into real songs for live shows. You could say this dinky ass album lead to the forming of Merlin as a physical band. Metamorphosis complete 👌

☆☆☆☆☆

2012 Merlin was alot different than 2022 Merlin. We had little to no instruments to our name... a Line 6 Amp, Rock Band Drums, a Kaossilator, old beat up guitars and a Casio Keyboard from the 90s. We never knew what kind of project we were starting so we simply made weird ass music. Maybe it was to out weird the previous song. Maybe its because we went mad with magic we couldn't handle. Whatever it is, the long deleted albums have finally made the light of day, on this the 10th anniversary of the band.

Can a modern era Merlin fan handle old school Merlin? You be the judge of that.
